Look what I've got today!

I've been to a traffic depot in Walkley Heights on Wright Rd and saw lots of old & new traffic lights! Some were being thrown away, others were being repaired for further use. In one of the container bins, was a G+W Eagle pedestrian signal! Here it is, at my home, safe & sound!

This one was originally located on a pedestrian crossing outside Valley View Secondary School on Wright Rd. All it needs now is some cleaning, minor repairs, a few new parts & a fresh coat of paint!
I'm going to give this one school bus yellow & black.

Here's its original location in January 2011.

Here it is in the shed, being dismantled for cleaning & preparing to be repainted!
Image

Lenses + frames removed. I removed the visors before work started.
Image

The top housing had a shattered globe inside! Luckily I put all the pieces in a plastic bag before I binned it for safety!
Image

Rear of one reflector, which was covered in dust!
Image

One reflector after cleaning.
Image

Body without the globe holders & reflectors. I managed to get both mounting bolts off with WD40 and a long handled ratchet wrench with strength!
Image

Wire cable & its shroud removed.
Image

All the small components were put into an ice cream box!
Image

I should also replace the grommet within the dividing plate.
Image

Comparison with my ATS signal, which I'll probably use for parts later.
Image

That's all for now! I'll do some more tomorrow!
BTW, even if it was painted during manufacture, do I have to strip the paint off before I apply primer?
I shall head down to Bunnings or some other paint supplier & get the required colours!

Looks like a nice project you've got there!

You can strip it right down, but as the factory paint on this one already seems nice enough, I'd just spray over it. Make sure you cover the label up though!

I know you mentioned about the black/yellow scheme that was seen for a while in Aus. This'll be an interesting one to see!

I will leave the label (although it's weathered) untouched by covering it with masking tape.

More cleaning in progress from yesterday. I used a chisel to scrape off the old lens gasket and knock off a rivet holding the divider plate using a mallet.

Flakes of old gasket.

Lens frame with most of gasket removed.

Closer detail.

Divider plate removed. This will also be repainted and fitted with a new grommet from DSE!

Does a tiny bit of dirt/debris matter when spray coating?

Paint surrounding bracket bolt holes may need stripping.

Visors cleaned. I might give them an undercoat before painting them black.
