Pics coming soon.

PS - Does anyone in the club have an original Horni version of the flat top signal? These were just like the 1st Gen Marbelite, except for the script Horni log on the back. I think I have seen only one or two come on eBay.

Im still looking for one. I just have the Marb 1st Gen version :rob:

I knew who the winner was for one of the eBay Hornis back in the day when eBay displayed bidder IDs. I emailed him but didn't hear back. I was interested in details about the signal, not just buying. :)

Oh, for the more innocent days when a Marbelite was just a Marbelite...no knowledge of (and sometimes associated confusion with) all the types...flat tops, 1058, lipped door, "traffic light," teardrop, that style with the thin housing bead :panic: ....probably missed some. :dizzy: ;)

Yeah, I remember going to Phil's old warehouse in Poughkeepsie, after I already had my first Marbelite (a "teardrop" from Springfield, NJ), and I discovered the existence of the 1058 model - I just had to have one. The neat thing was how it really confirmed the subtle differences I had to one degree or another noticed with these signals in service. Only after having them in hand could I really compare, though.

Funny you mention that. Phil had a "teardrop" Marbelite, and when I got my 1058, I assumed it was the same...I called him over to check it out and he noticed the differences right away. :hello:

For me, the depth of the doors, especially as you look at the areas between the sections in the front, was always very visible. And the funny thing is, I somehow correctly assumed it (the 1058) was older. Probably because the LFE signals, which I knew were relatively new, had a very flat appearance in the front, so I associated the more pronounced depth variation with age.

So where does the one piece door/visor come into to play with these?

They're the DC generation.

I assume the body still fits into one of the generations outlined by Jay, and it was a door variation within that generation, or across multiple generations.

Yes, jay's a done a good job of dating the generations.
I see Ed started a thread sometime ago about these as well. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=365&hilit=marbelite+deco

I knew there are certain lights which pertain to certain cities.
Acme - LA
Wiley - San Fran.
Essco - Chicago
Ruleta - NYC

But I never really considered anything for D.C. Old photo's show a lot of CH portholes, but to learn finally have it register in my brain, the solid visor finned marb. are associated with D.C. .... that's good stuff.

Aside from the city of New York, were Ruleta traffic signals actually used elsewhere in the country?

It seems like Ruleta was mainly focused on just New York City.

Once you got the NYC contract, you really didnt need to peddle to the rest of the country!
