End of Eagle in the area?

Postby EPAC-EPIC-MARC on Sun Jul 25, 2010 4:02 pm

The local guys know that we've used all-Eagle equipment for our modern box-span flashing yellow arrow signalized intersections. I was driving through the intersection of 23 mile and schoenherr which is getting new signals, and the heads are hanging and strapped up, with the original Eagle (LFE) polys still operating.

I only took a quick glance but the signals do not appear Eagle designed, they look like Econolites button back design, all of them. Ped signals aren't there yet but lately they've been 16 inch Eagle countdowns. It's the first modernized intersection I've seen here that hasn't been all Eagle, other then one intersection with McCain 16 inch ped signals. I wonder if we're getting away from Eagle equipment now and going to the cheaper Econolite equipment. I will get a better look next time.

I'll get them soon, they're all strapped up and kinda hard to photograph. Next time I'm through the intersection or when they're operating I will take a picture. I am really sure they are not Eagle traffic signals. They have exposed hinges like the LFE, but aren't rounded, they have what appeared to me as a button back.

I was at Hall road and Schoener this morning. Had I known about this, I would have gone 3 miles north to check it out. :rob:

They sound like Econolites to me.

Around here you'd think due to our proximity to Fortran that they would dominate, but they don't. Most new installs now are LFE, McCain (new for this part of the Country) and a whole lot of Econolite with Swarco LED's. The Econolte Swarco combo looks really sharp, and would probably be my favorite if I had to chose so I can't complain too much

The closest traffic signal head company is deMco in Kalamazoo, MI. They are almost non-existant in service here.
