Reconfiguring an MS Connector

Postby RYGDWW on Sun Jan 20, 2013 4:49 pm

Found a harness that has a socket layout that would match the pins of my ASD 804 controller, except for the key placement on the outer edge of the connector. Is there any way to relocate the key to align with the controller? Of, just file it off?

Thanks

Some connectors are bonded together and can't be rekeyed, but most can be disassembled. You can cut a new notch in the plastic core with a Dremel tool and then reassemble the connector with different keying. I've done it many times!

Note: I've always called it "Keying". Amphenol calls it "Insert Rotation".

From the Amphenol site:
“W”, “X”, “Y”, or “Z” designate that insert is rotated in its
shell from normal position. No letter required for normal
(no rotation) position.
