A Little Help Please

Postby 3Mfanatic on Mon Nov 12, 2012 12:21 am

I stumbled upon this blog of historic Portland photos and a number of them show these 2-aspect signal heads. This particular photos shows several of them along with what look like cast iron humps in the road. I know some early detection used the car horn as a form of changing the signals...perhaps this had something to do with it? I am also curious as to what brand the signals might be.

Thanks, guys! :good:

Check this one out! Sadly the signals are gone and the high school is now the site of an Arby's. :cray:

The peds are Eagluxes, and the RYG signal looks like an Art Deco

This blog is a gem. I've even found some photos from the mid-60s that show signals that are still hanging around today, albeit with shiny new Dialight LEDs. Once I get a decent collection compiled I'll post the best ones here.

Keep 'em comin'! Easy may be correct, but I think the RYG signals, in the second pic may also be Eagleluxs like the peds. When blown up, it looks like the visors angle down more like Eagle. That push button sign is also VERY unique and cool!

Steve, The visors do angle down, but it looks like it has an Art Deco fin on top. Unless it's a shadow.
Also if you look at the hanger it looks like a single hole Crouse Hinds.

I'm learning some new stuff here. I knew west coast states were among the first to introduce right turn on red but I found a 1950s picture with a sign that reads 'LEFT TURN PERMITTED ON RED AFTER STOPPING'. I thought left turns on red were only a 1970s development but I also found a 1950s photo with 'NO TURN ON RED' clearly visible.

Today...I believe the signals are original
