But I have heard a nasty rumour. Ontario may be nixing the flashing advance green in favour for a green arrow. Toronto is currently going through with replacing the flashing green, but it's not law yet.
When I was in Vancouver last summer, many intersections had constant green light flashes. Not a quick flash that advance greens usually have, but a steady flash. What up wit dat?
The constant green flash is for a ped signal install. When someone depresses the ped button, the signal changes from flashing green to a steady green, then yellow, and finally red. A bit like a fire signal, except that it goes to that steady green indication, whereas, a fire signal goes from the flashing yellow indication to a steady yellow in the section above, usually. Couldn't figure it out, until I finally saw an install cycle. Then, it was clear as to why the flashing green was used. With respect to Toronto's revisions, there probably will be a flashing green arrow, like what BC has, as a clearance interval before the through signals drop to green. I don't think I've seen bimodal arrows being used up there.
Granted, it's been almost 6 years since I was last in Canada. Used to go up there for Volvo parts that I couldn't find down here, then, a buddy of mine who worked at a Volvo shop up there started bringing stuff down for me when he'd be making trips to visit family, etc. So, there wasn't a need to go north. Also didn't help that the US dollar became almost equal in value to the Cdn dollar. Is cheaper to just wait for something to come in locally. Have seen some Cdn spec cars in the local yards lately.
