"Canandian" GE Novalux

Postby LarryC39 on Sun Jul 03, 2011 12:35 pm

I picked up a Novalux back in May, this one came from the Toronto area. Not sure if these are Canadian versions of the American signal, or if it is just another American build variant.

Body looks about the same as the American version, two holes in the back were for mounting it to the wall in the house :rob:

Bottom of the back has a stamped (foundry?) partnumber of 112438.

Doors use a stubby batwingnut I hadn't seen before - typically the knurled thumbnuts or the conventional wingnuts IME.

These also came with cast visors which was cool. They have a faint partnumber stamped where RULETA woudl be stamped on the Ruleta version.

The lenses were a mismatch of red GE brick, and Amber/Green generics. Reflector arrangement was conventional, but damaged, and the body-mounted cable clip in the Amber section is present in this one also.

There was also spacers used in the hinges as a bearing. My others either didn't have this or it was worn away.

Just thought I'd dig this up...such beautiful signals, all of these! Wish I'd kept my Novalux, dangit!

I probably saw many of those CGEs when I spent the summer of '83 in Italy.

This Novalux is very interesting, batwingnuts rule. That's a strong looking signal.
Looks like the Designa has smaller lens than the Kopp 8 3/8?
