I have painted a few signal items yellow, including the 12" Crouse Hinds A.D. and a pole. I have found that a blend of paints looks rather good. I used marigold, and while the paint was still wet, I give it a fog coat of standard yellow. It takes a little experimentation, but once you get the drill and finesse down, it comes out very evenly. I believe the key with this method is to paint outside in a well lit area. I personally liked the outcome better than any other standard paint I was able to find.

Steve, the CH 12" looks nice!! Maybe I'm overthinking this  and should just take Jerry's advice and use the SBY paint.

Seems that I'm not the only one to ask the "what color do I use" question, I've seen that question in several other post's.

ACE SBY does have some orange in it, but not too much in my opinion. My favorite powder coat color (Corvette Yellow) is more yellow than ACE SBY. You can't really judge that color in that pic I posted, the lighting in my basement is bad.

One other note, the pictures I posted are a semi-gloss, not gloss. I think that the colors take on a very different look depending on how glossy the paint is. Both look good, but my preference is a bit flatter than full gloss.

I'll give the ACE SBY a try, (in a paint booth) it will probably be fine. It could be done outside, but we have tree pollen blowing around and collecting everywhere this time of year.

We all have heard of powder coating, but perhaps "pollen coating" would work as well.

Not exactly the color that I'm looking for here. :rotfl: It's kind of a greenish yellow.

Ok, I tried the Ace SBY and while the color is ok, the coverage on the item's that I painted was terrible. I would guess that it is going to take 4 or 5 coats just to get full coverage. I know you all warned me, and I found out, this stuff gets EVERYWHERE!!!! Too bad the paint that seemed to miss what I was painting couldn't have landed on the intended target. It took a full can just to paint one side of the base and the back side of 12 doors. (2 coats)

I do believe that the hunt is on for another brand of paint, any more suggestions??

I'm sorry to hear that you are not happy with ACE SBY. I have found a lot of other yellows are too yellow.

Jerry, I like the color, it's just the way it goes on and the mess it makes that is the issue.

Maybe I need to move the painting project outside, we have some 80 degree days comming up.
