I swear, Japanese signals confuse the crap outta me.

Like the 3M with all 3 direction arrows below it.

GB -> YB............... -> RB ............... -> YB -> RB
.......LGA, TGA, RGA -> LGA, TGA, RGA

If you have a green ball, when what's the difference between the ball indication and the left, through, and right indications on together? What's the point of having the red ball on at the same time as the arrows? Wouldn't that negate the red ball anyway??

ok... I can enplane a little...

You will never see a yellow -> on a vehicle signal in Japan, they are for Light rail/trolley use only.

So that 3+3 stack:
(R)(Y)(G)
(<)(^)(>)

The Japanese have the yellow phase to indicate "CHANGE" not that read is next

So it goes from (G) to (Y) Then all arrows briefly to indicate all is still ok to move, but someone's about to drop (I saw the signal in Question, it was odd from the others, they skipped this phase)

Then it goes (Y) then (^)(>), and so on

It's a little odd, but they believe in all indications everywhere!

I can't determine the location. I keep thinking that it could be somewhere in Canada. Anybody recognize the area in the photo?

there's a good scattering of 3Ms across Canada. We still have a load of bulbs for them at work (found them yesterday), so I don't think the signals are going anywhere just yet
