Sondra had thought of having a Caboose in the back yard for a work shop. Not sure we have enough yard left.

How bout a set of train horns, wouldn't the neighbor's love that...

We don't have a train horn, but....... we do have an emergency self-powered ship's horn that produces 132 decibils at one meter.

The horn is set up with a pull handle.

We use the horn on occasion when the dogs get too noisy with their barking and yes, all the neighbors on the surrounding block are aware we have a horn.

Cheers!

Hi Mark,

Over the horn is a cylinder with a plunger in it attached to a manifold. Pull the handle on the plunger forces air through the manifold past a metal disc at the smaller end of the horn which creates a vibration or sound that is amplified by the horn. This horn was made for emergency use on ships which required no external power. The cylinder and plunger is very similar to a bicycle tire pump.

The faster or harder you pull the plunger, the louder and shorter the horn blast, 1-2 seconds. Pull the plunger slow and the sound is a lower pitch and will last longer, roughly 4-6 second blast. At the end of the plunger stroke, allow the plunger spring to bring back to rest position and repeat as necessary.

Cheers!
