Tried everything

Postby vaughn on Sat Sep 29, 2012 9:25 am

Cleared cache last night, cleared history, went from safari to chrome, and had my girlfriend go over my computer. I thought I had it cuz the smileys were back and in front of the disscutions the pics were back. The next time I got back on the smileys were pulled and no more pics in front of disscutions. I just seen and used some smileys on a responce I did no more than 5 minites ago and now there gone. What's going on? My girlfriend said the I-mac is just fine and the only thing that it could be is this site. Why does the emotioncallys ( smileys ) appear every now and again?

Maybe your computer's burnt out from starting new threads on the same topic over and over.

In this case, this is the topic I believe you are talking about:

Hey Matt,
I did a job in your town a while back, turned out great.
Goggle Crome is my browser, and JAVA is up to date. I'm told JAVA is updated periodically on this Mac. I see the smileys now but I bet they'll dissappear as soon as I hit submit.
Sometimes I get smileys next to the text bx but most days I don't, it's different from 1 day to the next. It's been this way for a month.

Again, I just added a smiley in my text 5 minites ago. Submitted my reply and left the forum. I just walked in from outside, got on the forum again and now there gone. So outa the 4 times I was here today I saw the smiles twice. So there's a 50/50 chance I see smileys. Why?
Ed, I was told it's not my computer it was cleaned up last night. Is there a chance someone is rubing there hands together with an evil laugh deciding when I see smileys? I think The support center is the only place to talk about this and it doesn't seem to effect anyone else. Is there a way to see if someone is in my computer on your end?

Since it's a Mac, did they repair permissions?

99.999999% of the time if your Mac is doing something weird, that fixes it.

There is nothing going on with the site (that I'm aware of) that would cause your issues. That and the fact that no one else appears to be having this issue leads me to believe it's a localized issue on your end (despite your expert's assurances to the contrary). Unfortunately without being THERE it's very difficult to diagnose exactly what's wrong, but as Mikerm suggested, I'd look at repairing permissions first and foremost. There's a great utility for OS X called ONYX. It will resolve many performance issues with older Mac installs. It's free and you should download it and run it (or have your 'computer savvy' friend do it for you). You can choose which version to download based on what version of OS X you're running here - http://www.titanium.free.fr/.

I think this site works best on a PC and OK on a smartphone. Have you tried a new computer?
